Hey all,

We currently have our PlanetPress Suite running on a Windows Server 2008 R2 and are planning to upgrade the OS soon.

From reading the following thread (from December of last year), it was claimed that the latest version of PlanetPress Suite is 7.6.2.9999 - this is the version I'm currently running. Is the claim that this is the latest version still true?

https://www.objectiflune.com/forum2/ubbt...=true#Post57367

If that is the case, it raises another question for me. We have not done any manual upgrades of our instance of PlanetPress for 4 or 5 years - and yet the version still shows 7.6.2.9999. Is there some automatic software updates going on behind the scene or am I to believe that there's been no software updates for PlanetPress Suite for 4-5 years? If there hasn't been any updates, why?

If we do an in-place upgrade of the VM server to Windows Server 2016 (from 2008 R2), should I expect the magic number to change? If it does, will I simply need to contact customer care to get a Transfer License form? Anything else I should worry about in regards to upgrading the OS of the PlanetPress host machine?

No more development is done on PlanetPress Suite and the latest version is 7.6.2.9999.

The last 4-5 years have been concentrated on the Connect brand.

Most likely, and OS upgrade will trigger a change in the magic number and contacting customer care for a license transfer is the way to go.

You should read the limitation of the Suite in the 2016 environment by consulting the Releases notes.

Thanks for the explanation JC, much appreciated!

A couple other questions then, coming from someone who does not know about much about the Connect brand.

1) Is the Connect brand essentially a replacement for PlanetPress Suite? Does it contain software that serves as replacements for PlanetPress Design and PlanetPress Workflow?

2) If it does serve as a replacement for Design/Workflow, are the design documents and workflow configurations transferable to the new software, or will they require a full (or partial) rewrite?

3) If no more development is being done on the PlanetPress Suite does that mean it's technically unsupported? I know I can still get technical support if I experience issues with it but if there are new bugs found, there will be no patches?

4) Is there an end-of-life for PlanetPress Suite on the horizon?

All these links really helped with my problem, finally I was able to solve it. Didn't have much time for it with all my work and this Greek citizenship by investment in the parallel.

@NichardRixon,

1) The document composition elements are replaced; the workflow remains.

2) All existing document templates and workflows will run under the new software. Document templates wishing to benefit from the feature-set in Connect will need to be rewritten in this software.

3) It is fully supported as long as you continue to be 'in care' - having purchased OL Care.

4) This has not been announced so it unknown.
