I would like to know if there are any plans to support VMWARE VMOTION in the future. If the answer is yes, what is the time line for this?

rpoenaru,

The issue isn't that VMWare Motion causes issues with the software itself, really. The reason we do not support it is because when you move a virtual machine from one server to another, the hardware it uses changes, thus its magic number changes.

The same thing happens if you install PlanetPress in a VMWare Workstation guest, activate it and then move the virtual machine to another physical computer.

Perhaps someone in development or marketing can advise further but, as far as I know, there is no plan to support VMWare Motion in the near future (thus no timeline for it).

Regards,
Eric.

Hi Eric,

Thanks for clarifying this for us. We are in the process of evaluating if we upgrade to the latest version of Planet Press or move to different software. VMOTION is critical for us, as we are planning to get a 100% virtualized system. The choice will be easier.

Hi Olivier,

Thanks for updating the thread with the news of OL supporting VMotion.

Can you please point me in the right direction, about where I can read more about this feature in detail?. I tried finding information about it on the OL website, but did not know where to and what to look for exactly.

Regards

SR

I have tested the "vmotioning" for a client, after upgrading to the latest version of PP (7.1.3). It works perfect.

Thanks
