I am running planetpress 5.
I have a strange duplexing problem.

I have just used the design tool to send a form with test data to two printers.
An HP 4250, and an HP 5100.
On the 5100 here in my office, it printed the document duplex.
On the 4250 in the remote office, the document was printed on two sheets.
I am assured that the remote printer is set up for duplex and that it had been happily printing duplex minutes before.

It is my understanding that the design tool compiles the form and the data into a set of postscript commands and sends them to the printer.

I am baffled as to how it could reach two duplex enabled printers, and print one duplex and one simplex.

Could anyone shed any light onto this ?

Thanks

Luke

Hello,

All the commands related to your duplexing are coming from the PPD you select when you design your document. That been said, which PPD are you using within your document (Top menu -> Format -> Document -> Design for ) ?

There is a default PPD we provide that has the basic command such as the duplexing but it doesn

Thank you for your reply.
I am printing a planetpress document, and I am using the default PPD.
I had assumed that something as basic as duplexing would be common to many printers, especially two by the same manufacturer.

I would prefer not to have to use a specific PPD as the document needs to be able to be printed on a number of different printers.

Is using a specific printer PPD my only option?

Luke

Hello,

Unfortunately, this is your only option.
Why not give it a try with that specific PPD with the other printer as well, who knows!
It may work for both!

I solved the problem, but I've no idea how!
I changed the PPD to the 4250.
It didn't print in duplex on either the 4250 or the 5100.
I changed the PPD back to the default one and now it prints duplex on both....!

I'm glad it's fixed, but can you offer an explanation as to how?
