HI, I have a form consisting of 7 total pages. 4 pages are printed each time and 3 pages are conditional. This form prints on an HP 9000 utilizing 3 input trays and the manual feed input. The form was originally produced using PlanetPress 2. I have recently upgraded the form to version 4 and now 5. On both the 4 and 5 version the printer will print the first 5 or so forms (25+ pages) fine but then slows down to about 10 seconds per page. Does any have a idea of what might be causing this. Any help would be appreciated. What used to take 20 minutes to print now takes over an hour.
Thank You

John,

I don't know if this will help, but we had a similar problem when we upgraded our printers. After much searching around, I found this to be the problem. Once I had done what it says, everything was great again.

Thanks for quick replies.

We do have hard drive in the printer that the form is compiled to. We print 2 - 3 images per page. I have tried both .bmp and .jpg images with similar results. I tried LAPD's suggetions, but it didn't seem to speed things up. I was using "Best Fit" changed it to "constant resolution" but that didn't seem to make much difference either.

I do know that the issue is with the images. If I remove them from the form things print fine. I added one back and things slowed down considerably. We have manipulated the graphic in Macromedia Fireworks MX 2004 to make the size smaller, that didn't seem to help much either.

We are now looking into cache settings to see if that helps. Any suggestions?

Thanks again.

John,

I have similiar problems with my HP9000. I've done everything that's been suggested. Been on the phone for hours with HP also.

Try this, I've found this works the majority of the time: Try "file" then "Print". Make sure the check box for "run locally" is checked.

I've been told doing this allows the PC to rip most of the document and puts less strain on the printer.

Also, have you tried using the image downloader. Download the images to the printers hard drive, then just use a call. Thats also worked. I believe you'd find those instructions in using Dynamic Images section of the book.

The problem I have found with the HP9000 is in the printers ability not in PlanetPress.

Just FYI My 9000 has 390megs of Ram and a 20gb HD. Still have problems like that.

Eric

Thanks Eric,

I'm looking into the Image Downloader now to see if that helps. I'll post the results.

I have a hard time accepting a limitation with the printer only because this very same form works fine when created in Planetpress version 2 or 3. I only experience the problem when the form is imported into version 4 and 5. I have seen mention in other posts that there were changes in the Postscript code produced between version 3 and 4.

One other note, the printer is connected to our Unisys mainframe and the data stream is sent directly to the printer. We're not printing out of a PC app, so the printer is doing all the processing for the form.

Thanks again
John

Thanks to all for your help,

I changed the images from static to dynamic and used the Image Downloader to get the images to the printers hard drive. I used a basic PlanetPress Talk statement (='image name') to reference the images on the form. I also made a little adjustment to cache settings and things look like they are printing fine now.

It seems there is a major difference between PlanetPress 3 and 4 in how the program handles static images.

Thanks again
John
