When I send a file down to print on our Digimaster 150, it begins printing immediately.

We have a Kodak file download utility that we sometimes use with other softwares. The utility lets us attach an operator comment which keeps the file from printing.

What can I do in PP5?

Thanks for your help

Hi,

I want to send a file to the Digimasters print que but I don't want it to print until the operator releases it.

Presently, if I send file to print, it just prints.

Hi,

I believe that, that is a setting that needs to be set on the rip setup. The job should be sent to a hold queue and then manually released.

Thanks
Cosimo

We get this behavior on Canon imageRunner150s (the same machine, I believe) by inserting an operator message like:

~%%OperatorMessage: (Your message goes here)

We put this in by selecting Format...Document...Basic Attributes. We put the operator message as the FIRST line in the "notes" section. The operator must release the job in order for it to print. I usually put in what the job is, but you could also put in information about media requirements, etc... The message must be in parentheses.

Hope this helps!

Just to explain a little what exactly is happening here.

When you go to the notes section in a PlanetPress document we have put in a door to allow Postscript (or other printer specific commands) to be passed along in the final Postscript job. To use a command here you must start it with the ~ character, this is what we trigger off of.

The Digimaster (a product of Kodak) accepts printer specific commands known as KDK commands (or Kodak Commands). The operator message is one of those commands that it supports. This is not a standard Postscipt command but something that would work only on this family of printers.

So to sum it all up, this should work just fine on the CanonIR150 or Digimater but would not work on another printer.

On a side note, I am pretty sure there is a queue setup by default in the RIP that automatically holds jobs. I believe (it has been a while since I tested it all) you can just LPR to that queue name and the job is held.

Well the workaround works, thanks.

I tried to set the default behaviour of the printer to rip n hold but I must be doing something wrong.

Kodak was never even able to get us the proper PPD file. We have the Digi 150 and all they got could get us was the 9110. We can't even specify that we want the job to go to stacker, still trying to resolve this.

PlanetPress is delivered with a built in PDD for the 9110 (the 9110 is the same base printer as the 125 and the 150). Its called ObjectifLune PPD for the Heidelberg Digimaster 110.

Go to format-->document-->Advanced paper handling. Right click in the before document window and choose add.

Choose finishing device on the left and stacker on the right.

I have used this many times in the past without an issue (though there has been a few RIP upgrades since the last time I got in front of one of those printers).

Danny,

I added the above and sent a job down but it's still targeting the top exit.

I still only see one option for Output Tray - printer default-

Should I be setting something else, elsewhere?

Hello,

When you say you added the above, did you see stacker from the options or just printer default?

I right click and added finishing device stacker as you say, but no I don't see stacker as an option, just printer default.

You have the PlanetPress PPD for the Heidelberg 9110 select at the document level? (format document).

Also, are you on the advanced paper handling tab? It is normal that with this printer on the paper handling tab (not advanced) that you only have printer default.

At the Document Level

Basic Attributes / Designed For
Objectif Lune PPD for Heidelberg Digimaster 9110 (OLHddm91.ppd)

Then also at Document Level

Advanced Paper Handling
Finishing Device=Stacker

This does not work. Also when I look in the Paper Handling - Output tray, there my only option is Printer default

Interesting, this solution has worked for many years on those printers. Not sure why it is not working in this case.

In the normal output options it is normal it says only printer default. This needs to be done in the advanced options (which you have done).

It might be a good idea at this point to open an issue with support using the button at the top left.

Could it have anything to do with the PPD. I think at some point the Kodak Tech gave us a new PPD file because we could not see out paper trays... actually we still cant see them smile

Anyway, I will open an issue, try to get to the bottom of this once and for all.

Thanks for your help
